wanderer is a new1 decentralized2 trail database. You can upload GNSS3 tracks of your activities, add metadata, and create routes.
There is a social element as well: Similarly to other platforms, on wanderer, you can follow other users, see their activities, and like and comment on trails. wanderer also supports importing activity histories from other platforms such as STRAVA or Komoot.
Looks like an interesting addition to the growing decentralized web and to digital self-determination.
Footnotes
v0.17.1 – early days↩︎
wanderer is open-source under AGPL v3. If you like, you can self-host a wanderer instance (server). wanderer uses the ActivityPub protocol, meaning your instance can connect with others to share trail information, user profile data, and updates. Users from different instances can connect across the network of wanderer communities (there is no central node) and even interact with other federated platforms like Mastodon.↩︎
